Marysville is the space-for-the-money suburb north of Everett — a large, family-oriented city across the Snohomish River delta, nicknamed the "Strawberry City" for its agricultural roots. For an NS Everett family, it's where BAH buys the most house and yard, and it's also the closest big suburb to the Navy's Smokey Point support complex (about 11 miles north of Everett).
The honest trade is commute distance. Marysville is farther north, so your drive to the main station on Port Gardner is longer (and I-5 backs up). Families happily make the trade for newer subdivisions and more space; sailors who want a short commute lean toward Everett or Mukilteo.
Where it fits in the commute
Marysville is north of Everett via I-5 — a real commute to the main station, but close to the Smokey Point complex. I-5 is the chokepoint; drive it at rush hour before you commit. It's across Puget Sound from the Kitsap bases — not a commute to those.
Neighborhoods
- Marysville — The established core and its subdivisions — affordable family housing, parks, the most inventory.
- Smokey Point — The northern retail/commercial area near the Navy support complex — newer development, convenient to I-5 and the complex.
What to verify before you sign
- The I-5 commute, driven — Marysville's distance hides real rush-hour time.
- The Marysville SD feeder at GreatSchools.
- Rent/price vs BAH — Marysville is among the better values; run the BAH Budget tool. Washington has no state income tax.
